Excursions Madurodam, for more than 50 years Holland's smallest city, is opened all year round. The canal houses of Amsterdam, the Alkmaar cheese market and parts of the Delta Works, all replicated in minute detail on a 1:25 scale. All is set in beautiful gardens. Watch windmills turn, ships sail and modern trains traverse the city on the world's largest miniature railway. Madurodam is located between the centre of Den Haag (The Hague) and the seaside resort of Scheveningen.In Scheveningen you can enjoy, relax and visit all kinds of events. This seaside resort has a pleasant boulevard and a myriad of attractions and museums. These include the Casino, the Circus Theater, a mega cinema, the renovated pier and a shopping mall. Feel like going to a beach party? Or do you simply like to barbecue? The beach pavilions offer an international variety of foods for beach parties and barbecues. And during the months of April through October, you can relax in one of the deck chairs or comfortable lounge chairs available at the beach pavilions. Delft, centre of the Dutch pottery industry and world famous for its blue hand-painted ceramics, is roughly midway between Rotterdam and The Hague. But however world-famous delftware is, there is much more than that to the Delft experience. Delft is also one of Holland's best preserved canal-, and bridges-city. Standing on one of these bridges and looking out over Oude Delft Canal, one can still feel the wealth of old days. The water mirrors the leaning tower of the Old Church, a tile museum, the striking facade of the socalled Gemeenlandshuis from 1520 ,(a building housing the body of surveyors of the dikes) and the hidden Beguinage. Of course Delft is also the native town of the 17th century Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer, baptized in the New Church and buried in the Old Church. Of him we know the 'View of Delft'.
